Plumbing + Irrigation: Pipes, Fittings and Hoses
Compare pipework, hose systems, threaded connections, valves and pipe insulation by connection, size, length and configuration.
Organize plumbing + irrigation by task
The category can be organized by the task and the connection to the existing fitting. For a piping system, pipe or hose is the starting point; for a connection, consider female thread, male thread, hose barb or coupling. Shut-off work calls for valves, while insulated heating and plumbing lines use insulation sleeves. Product names list measurements such as 25 mm, 1 inch, diameter, length and insulation thickness. A traceable selection starts with the measurement on the existing part and then adds configuration and accessories.
Pipes
Match pipe sections and pipe components by nominal size, length and configuration. This section is the starting point when the pipe run is central.
Hoses
Classify suction, pressure and garden hoses by inner diameter, length and connection. For sets, also check the suction strainer, non-return valve and double nipple.
Threaded fittings
Sort threaded adapters by female or male thread, inch size and configuration. Double nipples, elbows and couplings represent different connection types.
Insulation
Compare insulation sleeves by outer diameter, insulation thickness, length and self-adhesive configuration. These values appear in the listed variants on the product page.
Hoses: length, inner diameter and set contents
For suction and pressure hoses, inner diameter and hose length distinguish the variants. The reviewed product pages list 1 inch or 25 mm and lengths of 5, 7, 8, 9, 10, 15, 20 and 25 m. These numbers belong to their respective items; the length of one set cannot be transferred to another version. For an existing run, first choose the required length, then match the connection.
A set may list a suction strainer, non-return valve, foot valve, hose clamps and a brass double nipple with 1-inch male thread. The 25 m hose without this set has an inner diameter of 25 mm, a plastic reinforcement spiral and a working pressure of 6 bar; the listing also states ozone, chlorine and UV resistance as well as above-ground and underground installation. These features describe the relevant product listing and do not replace checking the connection.
Check set components separately
With a set, hose length is not the only relevant detail. The suction strainer, non-return valve, foot valve, hose clamps and double nipple are separate components. A hose without this combination is classified by inner diameter, length, reinforcement spiral and the stated working pressure.
Three product examples by connection and size
The following items show how different selection criteria come together: hose connection and thread, hose length and inner diameter, and pipe diameter and insulation thickness.
Fittings and hose connections: match the threads
Both sides must be read for threaded connections. According to the product page, the 2/3 hose union connects a 1-inch female thread with a 25 mm hose connection and lists brass, a hose barb and a union nut. The brass double nipple, by contrast, has 1-inch male thread on both sides. Thus, two brass parts can differ despite the same inch size because of female or male thread and the hose side.
A hose clamp follows another selection criterion: the stainless-steel W4 configuration lists a 12 mm band width and a range of 20 to 32 mm. Band width and clamping range belong to the hose, while female and male thread belong to the adapter. These details must not be switched when matching the parts.
Read material and configuration in the name
Brass, stainless steel and plastic appear in different places in product names and listings. The items also specify configurations such as double nipple, hose union or hose clamp. Only the combination of material, connection side, size and configuration describes the relevant variant.
Pipe insulation: compare outer diameter and insulation
For pipe insulation, the notation combining outer diameter and insulation thickness is decisive. The listed pages include, for example, Ø 54 mm x 13 mm, Ø 54 mm x 20 mm and Ø 35 mm x 13 mm. They also distinguish 1 m and 2 m lengths. A self-adhesive configuration is explicitly listed for several CLIMAFLEX® variants; it should be read as a separate feature of each relevant page.
The red plastic mitre box is an accessory for working on pipe insulation. Its product page describes it for cutting bends and T-pieces. A straight insulation sleeve therefore has different selection values from a tool for shaped sections: first diameter and insulation thickness, then length or cutting.
Keep length and insulation thickness separate
A value such as 2 m describes the length of the insulation sleeve; 13 mm or 20 mm describes the insulation thickness. The outer diameter, such as 35 mm or 54 mm, refers to the pipe size. These three values answer different questions and should each be noted on a separate line when comparing products.
Valves, tank bulkhead fittings and water connections
For shut-off and adapter components, configuration is just as important as the connection. The category includes ball valves, gate valves and shut-off valves alongside outlet valves. For tank bulkhead fittings and IBC accessories, the connection between container, thread and hose also matters. The mini ball valve listed in the product listing specifies chrome-plated brass and AG x IG; this describes a different variant from a hose set with a suction strainer.
When comparing water routes, a fixed sequence helps: first the task, then female or male thread, followed by inch or millimeter size and finally lever, valve bore or accessories, if listed in the relevant name. This keeps the decision tied to the details of the specific item.
Do not sort water routing by inch size alone
An inch size can refer to a thread, a hose diameter or a double nipple. The 1-inch value of the hose union appears next to the 25 mm hose connection; for the suction and pressure hose sets, 1 inch is listed together with 25 mm. The key is always which connection side the number belongs to.

FAQ: questions before choosing
What do 1 inch and 25 mm mean on a hose?
On the hose union, the two values refer to different connection sides: 1 inch denotes the female thread, while 25 mm denotes the hose connection. On a suction and pressure hose, the page lists 25 mm as the inner diameter. The same pair of numbers must therefore not be compared without considering the connection type.
Which lengths are available for the suction and pressure hose sets?
The reviewed pages list sets of 5, 7, 8, 9, 10, 15, 20 and 25 m. Each length belongs to the individual set. The application run determines the choice; in addition, 1 inch or 25 mm and the connection components must fit the existing system.
What can be included in a suction and pressure hose set?
Depending on the configuration, the product pages list a suction strainer, non-return valve, foot valve, hose clamps, hose barb and a brass double nipple with 1-inch male thread. The exact set contents are tied to the relevant length variant and should be checked against the product name.
How do I compare pipe insulation?
Read the three separate values: outer diameter, insulation thickness and length. Listed examples are 35 mm x 13 mm, 54 mm x 13 mm and 54 mm x 20 mm, with lengths of 1 m or 2 m. A self-adhesive configuration is an additional listed feature.
What specifications does the stainless-steel W4 hose clamp have?
The product page lists stainless steel W4, a 12 mm band width and a range of 20 to 32 mm. It also lists a screw with slotted, Phillips and hexagonal socket drive. These values refer to the clamp, not to a threaded fitting.
How do I read IG and AG in the product name?
IG stands for female thread, while AG stands for male thread. The hose union lists 1-inch IG and a 25 mm hose connection; the double nipple lists 1-inch AG on both sides. These abbreviations show which connection side is needed on the mating part.
Five checkpoints for matching
Use a short sequence for comparison: first define the task, such as hose routing, a threaded adapter, shut-off or pipe insulation. Second, record the existing size. Third, distinguish the configuration, for example hose, double nipple, clamp or insulation sleeve. Fourth, check IG, AG, hose barb or coupling. Fifth, match the length, insulation thickness and listed components of the specific item. This sequence keeps the selection tied to the stated data and makes variants with similar general terms distinguishable.
